Aircraft mechanic charged with purposely interfering with navigation system

According to the US Attorney’s office in Miami an aircraft mechanic named Abdul-Majeed Marouf Ahmed Alani has been charged with tampering with an aircraft’s navigation system. Abdul-Majeed who originally who came from Irag in 1992 works for American Airlines.

Federal prosecutors allege that he put adhesive in the navigation system to prevent the plane from leaving. Footage is shown of Abdul-Majeed working on the plane 7 minutes before the plane was set to takeoff. Abdul-Majeed told investigators that he didn’t want to harm the 150 passengers on the plane. He just wanted to make some overtime pay. There was a dispute between his union and American Airlines so he wanted to make some extra money
