Since the creation of the automobile man has been seeking to push the limits. The SSC Tuatara did just that. Multiple companies have fought for the top spot to have the fastest production car title. The title which was recently held by the Koenigsegg Agera RS has been passed on to a new contender.
The SSC Tuatara has now become the fastest production car on the road. The car had two runs back to back. The first was 301.07mph and the run the opposite direction was 331.15mph! The ssc tuatara 0-60 is 2.5 seconds. To take that into perspective that is faster than the speed that a Boeing 747 requires to take off.
The Agera RS held the title 13 years prior at 277.87mph. Granted the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ reached more than 300mph but the test wasn’t completed in both directions. To have the title of the fastest car you have to run in both directions and the average of the two becomes your top speed.
The team at SSC who broke the speed record in 2007 at 256.14mph managed to come back and show what they are really made of. The SSC Tuatara has a twin turbo flat plane crank V8 making a whopping 1750hp on E85. In addition the vehicle only weighs 2750lb.
The team stated that the car had even more to give although there was a strong headwind which prevented them from pushing the car any further. If you want to get your hands on one of the 100 cars being produced then you might want to make sure you have an extra 1.6million USD lying around.
